Felix Hernandez signs extension with Mariners

Baseball season is almost upon us and spring training has begun. Along with that comes news of a massive contract extension for Felix Hernandez in Seattle. The Mariners have made it clear for years now that they are not going to let King Felix get away whether its free agency or a trade, they aren't letting Felix play for anyone else. Now they have made him the highest paid pitcher in all of baseball with a contract worth 175 million dollars over the next seven years.

Is Felix the best pitcher in baseball? There is an argument to be made but I think Justin Verlander and Clayton Kershaw would have something to say about that. Kershaw should be getting a new deal very soon but it most likely wont be quite Felix money. With no other real superstars over the past decade, and a lack of interest from free agents its not a bad idea for the Mariners to throw a ton of money at Felix to keep him happy in Seattle.
